President Nixon: Alone in the White House Richard Reeves talked about his biography, President Nixon: Alone in the White House, published by Simon and Schuster. The book covers the Nixon presidency, from his inauguration in January 1969 to his resignation in August 1973, including the Watergate scandal. Mr. Reeves talked about the process of writing his book, including six years of research and thousands of pages of archival material, tapes and interviews with former associates of the president. He described President Nixon’s relations with his inner circle, Chief of Staff H. R. Haldeman, Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs John Ehrlichman and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and his mistrust of congressional Republicans and the Defense Department. He also discussed President Nixon’s conduct concerning Vietnam, the trip to China, and the end of the gold standard. He answered questions from members of the audience. close
