Mr. DePalma, a former New York Times bureau chief in both Canada and Mexico, talked about his book, Here: The Biography of the New American Continent, published by PublicAffairs. The book is about the formation of North America and the parallel evolution of its three countries. The author said that for 500 years Canada, the United States, and Mexico have existed separately but only recently have begun to coexist in a much closer relationship. Mr. DePalma attributes this switch to a rapidly changing global economy as well as intracontinental politics. After his presentation, Mr. DePalma answered questions from members of the audience. close
