Ms. Sherr discussed her book, America the Beautiful: The Stirring True Story Behind Our Nation’s Favorite Song, published by Public Affairs. The author explained the creation of the song from an original verse composed by Katharine Lee Bates that was set to melody by Samuel Augustus Ward years later, and that eventually became one of America’s most famous songs. After the presentation the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
