The committee continued to hear testimony on the Bush Administration’s supplemental budget appropriations request to cover the incidental costs of the U.S. armed forces' operations in the Middle East and the costs of their transport and return from the Persian Gulf region. President Bush had requested $15 billion from Congress to cover the U.S.' costs of the war, which would be combined with $52 billion promised by foreign governments to pay for the military operations in the Persian Gulf. Mr. Darman said the estimates for foreign contributions for the U.S. operations in the Persian Gulf would be higher than predicted in the original estimates formulated by the Office of Management and Budget. close
