President George H. W. Bush and President of Colombia Gaviria spoke to reporters after meeting in the White House to discuss measures to reduce drug usage in the U.S. The Bush administration had made an agreement with Colombia to regulate the flow of chemicals to Colombia that may be used in the production of illicit drugs. President Bush lauded Colombians for fighting back against “narco-terrorists,” and drug-related crime. He said drug use in the United States was on the decline, and announced the signing of an agreement to give money to Colombia to fight the drug war. President Gaviria, whose cousin had been killed by drug-related terrorists the previous week, spoke strongly against “narco-terrorism,” and looked forward to a stronger relationship between Colombia and the United States. close
