Mr. Dickson talked about his book, SPUTNIK: The Shock of the Century, published by Walker and Company. The book is an investigation of the world’s first man-made satellite launched by the USSR on October 4th 1957. Mr. Dickson said that event triggered the race to the moon, was a turning point in the Cold War, and led to development of the Internet and satellite communications. After his presentation he answered questions from members of the audience. close
