After a meeting during which they discussed Iraqi reparations, Kuwait’s reconstruction, and the release of U.S. and Kuwaiti P.O.W.'s, Senator Alfonse D’Amato (R- New York), member of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee, and Ambassador Saud Nassir Al-Sabah spoke to reporters on Capitol Hill. Senator D’Amato said he believed the U.S. was charting the correct foreign policy course concerning the Middle East. He lauded the Administration for its handling of the Persian Gulf crisis, and also presented the ambassador with an honorary gift of a baseball cap to commemorate the war. Ambassador Al-Sabah thanked the United States, her people, Administration and armed forces for their role in the liberation of Kuwait. He presented a gift watch to Senator D’Amato commemorating Operation Desert Storm. Both men received questions from the press following the Ambassador’s remarks. close
