The World Watch Institute called the press conference to stress the serious environmental implications of the Persian Gulf war based on a preliminary impact assessment report on the region. They addressed the issues of health hazards, economic capabilities, and the huge oil spills and burning wells. The Institute is asking for an immediate international effort to examine the environmental problems and assist with the clean-up activities of the war, beginning in Kuwait and Iraq. close
