Mr. Nye discussed his latest book, The Paradox of American Power: Why the World’s Only Superpower Can’t Go it Alone, published by Oxford University Press. The author argues that despite our military, cultural and economic power, the United States does not have enough power to solve global problems by itself. Therefore, Nye says that we need to involve other nations in global threats such as terrorism and environmental degradation. Nye shows that military and economic power alone cannot deter problems such as drug smuggling and international financial instability, and that America must reassert itself toward the global community. During this event, Nye discussed his ideas for redefining our national interests after September 11th and answered questions from the audience. close
