Ms. Winch talked about her biography, A Gentleman of Color: The Life of James Forten, published by Oxford University Press. She described Forten as a free man born in pre-Revolutionary War Philadelphia who was a sailmaker and who eventually became an activist in the abolitionist movement. After her presentation Ms. Winch answered questions from members of the audience. close
