Author Frank Bruni discussed his book on the 43rd president, Ambling into History: The Unlikely Odyssey of George W. Bush, published by HarperCollins. Mr. Bruni presented two versions of George W. Bush, one before the attack on the World Trade Center and one after. Assigned to cover George W. Bush’s presidential campaign from its earliest stages, Mr. Bruni chronicles Bush’s maturation first as a candidate, then as president. Prior to the attacks the author said the president was a man who is naturally affable and good-humored but unprepared and perhaps even unmotivated to be president. After the attacks, Mr. Bruni believes a more purposeful leader emerged. After his presentation he answered questions from members of the audience. close
