Jake Page talked about his book In the Hands of the Great Spirit: The 20,000-Year History of American Indians, published by Free Press. Mr. Page explores aspects of Native American history, including the various theories of when and how humans first arrived on the North American continent and the structure of pre-Columbian societies. According to Mr. Page, climate, population growth, and intertribal warfare created highly adaptable indigenous cultures. He cites recent archaeological findings and Indian legends in support of this view. During his presentation, he explains his interest in U.S. native peoples and addresses current issues involving the more than two million American Indians living today. A question-and-answer period followed Mr. Page’s remarks. close
