Mr. Dobard talked about his new book, Hidden in Plain View: A Secret Story of Quilts and the Underground Railroad, published by Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group. The author was inspired to write the story after his co-author, Janet Tobin, was told of the Underground Railroad Quilt Code by an old quiltmaker. The authors discovered that when the quilts were hung outside to dry, their secret patterns gave the slaves directions to escape routes. Mr. Dobard also presented some quilts and answered questions from audience members. close
