Mr. Greenspan testified about the state of the economy and the pace of economic recovery. He indicated that continued uncertainty in the economic recovery would keep the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates in the near future. He also warned that business and consumer spending must grow in order for the recovery to be sustainable and cautioned that rising energy prices could have a negative effect on the economy. close
