Random House author William Styron and editor Robert Loomis were interviewed about their work, their friendship, and their history with the publishing house. The pair shared stories about Random House founders Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer, authors William Faulkner and William Saroyan, and the books Ulysses and Lolita. They talked about Mr. Styron’s experience suffering from severe depression and the memoir that grew out of it. Mr. Styron and Mr. Loomis have known each other since the late 1940s when both attended Duke University.

Ann Godoff was also interviewed.

William Styron is the author of nine books, including The Confessions of Nat Turner, Sophie’s Choice, and Darkness Visible. He has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the National Medal of Arts.

Robert Loomis is vice president and executive editor of Random House Trade Publishing Group. He joined Random House in 1957.
