The Heritage foundation hosted a forum marking the twentieth anniversary of the Westminster address in which President Reagan challenged Communist powers on moral grounds, saying they would eventually be defeated by individual liberty, representative government and the rule of law. Panelists include Ed Meese, Former Attorney General & Counselor to President Reagan, Tony Dolan, Speechwriter to President Reagan, and Richard Pipes, Former National Security Council Advisor for East European & Soviet Affairs. The panel addresses the topic “The Making and the Meaning of the Address,” and talked about the reasons behind the speech, its timing, and writing of the speech. close
