Bertie Ahern was re-elected Irish Prime Minister, or Taoiseach, by the Irish Dail. Following the vote, he and the leaders of the main opposition parties spoke of their priorities for Ireland, whose economy has grown faster than any other in Western Europe over the past 10 years. This is the first time a government in Ireland has been re-elected since 1969. Both parties in the prime minister’s coalition government gained seats in the general election May 17th. close
