Mr. D’Este discussed his biography Eisenhower: A Soldier’s Life, published by Henry Holt and Company. The book tells the story of the former U.S. President’s childhood in rural Kansas, his education at West Point, his career in the military through World War II, and his encounters with such figures as F.D.R, George Patton, Douglas MacArthur, George Marshall, Winston Churchill, Charles De Gaulle, and Joseph Stalin. Mr. D’Este talks about Eisenhower’s extraordinary command of history, his days as a prankster at West Point, his love-hate relationship with General MacArthur, and his behavior towards the Germans as they signed their unconditional surrender agreement on May 7th, 1945.
