The session was begun with a live performance of the song, “I’m Proud To Be An American.” The two speakers talked about the value and importance of America’s most basic unit, the family. Immigrants were called the United States most important import because they typically consist of family units stronger than families within the country. Without families, societies break down and disintegrate. Mr. Gilder told the representatives, “Don’t solve problems; pursue opportunity.” The Congress has been so focused on solving problems, he said, that they have institutionalized problems rather than solved them. He said they need to address the principle of moral hazards created and fostered by the welfare state. Mr. Basharov compared the Republican and Democratic Party on their policy stance and public popularity on certain issues. He showed charts to describe his statistics. close
