Mr. Newfield discussed his book Somebody’s Gotta Tell It: The Upbeat Memoir of a Working-Class Journalist, published by St. Martin’s Press. He talked about two pivotal moments in his life: watching Jackie Robinson play for the Brooklyn Dodgers and getting arrested just outside of Baltimore after participating in a civil rights demonstration. He also talked about his conversations with Martin Luther King, his disagreements with the Left in the late 60s, and the growing concentration of media ownership over the past few decades. Mr. Newfield answered questions from the audience following his talk. close
