As part of a University of Virginia-sponsored conference on the Civil War battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, teaching faculty took part in a discussion of about 25 recently-published Civil War books. The panelists had written many books on the subject, including Robert K. Krick’s The Smoothbore Volley that Doomed the Confederacy, George Rable’s Fredericksburg! Fredericksburg!, Robert E. L. Krick’s 40th Virginia Infantry, William Bergen’s The Other Hero of Cedar Creek: The ‘Not Specially Ambitious’ Horatio G. Wright and Peter Carmichael’s Lee’s Young Artillerist. The panel was moderated by Gary Gallagher, author of many books, including The Confederate War. After the discussion, the panelists answered questions from members of the audience.
