General Colin Powell spoke to the National Newspaper Association about the relationship between the media and government. “A free, aggressive untrusting press,” he said, is the best way to keep government and the military accountable. Gen. Powell also talked about the natural and necessary friction between himself and the press, citing his responsibility for withholding sensitive information to protect U.S. military personnel and the American public.
