Alvaro Uribe was sworn in as President of Colombia at the Parliament building in Bogota. He pledged in his speech to crack down on leftist guerrillas, drug trafficking, and government corruption. Uribe was elected president in May to a four-year term, after serving as a senator, state governor, and as mayor of his hometown of Medellin.
