Julia Collins talked about her book, My Father’s War: A Memoir, published by Four Walls Eight Windows. She recited excerpts from her book that detailed her surroundings and experiences as a child growing up on a farm in Brandford, Connecticut. As a young child, she remembered that her father, Corporal Jerry Collins, would share painful but vivid memories of World War II. Serving as a Marine in Okinawa, Corporal Collins survived what Ms. Collins described as being one of the bloodiest island battles in the Pacific. After her father’s death, she was able to piece together her father’s war experience through his memories of war and a suitcase of letters he left behind. After her presentation the author answered questions from audience members. close
