Mr. Florida discussed his new book, The Rise of the Creative Class and How It’s Transforming Work, Leisure, Community, and Everyday Life, published by Basic Books. In it, he asserts that there is an emerging new social class that consists of 38 million people, or nearly 30 percent of the American workforce. This class is identified as those who create new ideas, concepts, and technologies rather than the more traditional forms of labor. Professionals in this field include artists, musicians, academics, and scientists. After the presentation the author answered questions from members of the audience.
