Political Numeracy Mr. Meyerson discussed his book Political Numeracy: Mathematical Perspectives on Our Chaotic Constitution, published by W.W. Norton and Company. In the book, he uses mathematics to interpret historical events and modern problems. For example, he hypothesizes that the Declaration of Independence follows the pattern of an Euclidean geometric proof, and the Gettysburg address is an example of non-Euclidean geometry. He uses proportional analysis to evaluate affirmative action, the chaos theory in explaining the Constitution and Supreme Court interpretation, and logic of in support of the Electoral College. Professor Meyerson’s premise is that math, when properly understood, can offer a more expansive and balanced perspective on the complexities of the world. After his presentation he answered questions from members of the audience. close
