Mr. Starr discussed the latest book in his series about Americans and the California Dream. The book, Embattled Dreams: California in War and Peace, 1940 - 1950, published by Oxford University Press, is the sixth volume in the series, and it chronicles the decade in California’s history that saw the state become a national player in politics, manufacturing, and entertainment. The author also examines the increased cultural, political, and economic power of Hollywood during the time period.
