The inaugural session of the 39th Annual Convention of the Islamic Society opened with a special prayer for victims of the September 11 attacks. Sayyid Syeed, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Society of North America, gave opening remarks and explained the theme, “A Call for Peace and Justice.” In addition, approximately 20 Islamic group leaders talked about their organizations' responses to the September 11 attacks. close
