Former Senator McCarthy talked about the responsibility of the academic community for political thought and action. He said that although it is difficult to make direct analogies between the 1960s and 1990s, there are still some similarities. The student protests of the 1960s were explained. McCarthy talked about the “Vietnam Syndrome” and the public perception of war and the activities of the United States military. He said that conflicts are no longer called “wars,” instead, they are called “military defense.” He also talked about the concept of the “no fault presidency.” close
