Last week the Brady handgun bill, which would impose a seven-day waiting period for the purchase of handguns, was discussed in a congressional hearing. Mr. Snyder objected this bill on the grounds that it infringes a person’s right to defend themselves and their loved ones. Mr. Beard defended the bill because it allows police time to do background checks on prospective purchasers and to prohibit convicted felons from obtaining handguns. The Brady bill is expected to be debated in the House before Memorial Day. Both guests strongly advocated their positions. close
