Three panelists discussed how Bush can take advantage of his high popularity to the Persian Gulf war to win domestic policy wars. Ms. O’Beirne talked about education, parent-empowerment strategies, civil rights based on opportunity and choice, crime, housing and urban development. She said that Bush should “let loose his domestic generals to do battle on the inner cities.” Mr. Hodge’s remarks were titled, “Examining the Federal Budget: Record Levels of Domestic Spending.” By using charts, he mapped out the 1990 budget agreement and current domestic spending trends by the federal government. Mr. Mitchell’s remarks were titled, “The Run to Economic Recovery.” He discussed saving and interest, and economic recovery and jobs. He supports a “pro-growth, low tax” policy. close
