Prime Minister Blair took a variety of questions, ranging from a potential firefighters' strike, the role of Sinn Fein in Parliament, Britain’s National Health Service, and unilateral action versus multilateral action in Iraq.

Last weekend, Britain’s firefighters' union announced that a poll of members found that 90% favored a national strike if they were not awarded a 40% pay raise. If a resolution with the government is not reached, the first projected 48-hour work stoppage is scheduled for November 6.

With Northern Ireland’s political institutions suspended indefinitely in an effort to restore the Northern Ireland Peace Process, the prime minister called for the immediate dissolution of the IRA. Some members of the House of Commons questioned Sinn Fein’s use of parliament office space and supplies. close
