Helmut Smith talked about his book The Butcher’s Tale: Murder and Anti-Semitism in a German Town, published by W.W. Norton and Company. The book tells the story of a child murder in Konitz, Germany in 1900 that, after weeks of empty investigations, was eventually blamed on Jews from the town. According to the Christian citizens of Konitz, the child, a Christian, was the victim of a Jewish ritual murder. Professor Smith answered questions from members of the audience following his talk. close
