Mr. Brinkley talked about the book he wrote with Stephen Ambrose, The Mississippi and the Making of a Nation: From the Louisiana Purchase to Today, published by National Geographic. Mr. Brinkley began his talk about the history and influence of the Mississippi River with a brief overview of the Louisiana Purchase and the early expeditions on the Mississippi. He then talked about writing the book and profiled a number of people featured in it, including: Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Chuck Berry, Mark Twain, T.S. Eliot, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan. Following his talk, Mr. Brinkley took questions from the audience. close
