Mr. Rodriguez talked about his book Brown: The Last Discovery of America, published by Viking Penguin. In it, the author explores what “the browning of America” means for our society. Mr. Rodriguez makes the case that the country has always been brown as the color brown is actually made up of other colors and when European settlers and African slaves encountered the native American Indians, a mixing of hues was the inevitable result. He goes on to look at various manifestations of the color brown, ultimately making the argument that “Hispanics are becoming Americanized at the same time that the United States is becoming Latinized.”
