Professor Melanson talked about his book, The Secret Service: The Hidden History of an Enigmatic Agency, published by Carroll and Graf. The book covers the history of the Secret Service from its earliest days to its most recent actions following 9-11. Professor Melanson discussed the more famous incidents involving the Secret Service, including the assassination of President Kennedy and the attempted assassination of President Reagan. He also talked about the response of the Secret Service to special prosecutor Kenneth Starr’s subpoenas to have agents testify in the investigation of President Clinton and suggests ways to improve the organization. Following his presentation, Professor Melanson answered questions from members of the audience. close
