Author Stuart Eizenstat talked about his book Imperfect Justice: Looted Assets, Slave Labor, and the Unfinished Business of World War II, published by PublicAffairs. The book details the negotiations held in the late 1990s regarding restitutions paid by banks and private companies throughout Europe, for their respective roles in the Holocaust. Mr. Eizenstat served as U.S. Ambassador to the European Union from 1993 to 1996 and was the U.S. foreign policy official representative during these negotiations. The author provides an insider’s look at German slave-labor decisions, Swiss gold, how settlements were reached, and the roles of former New York Senator Alfonse D’Amato and World Jewish Congress president Edgar Bronfman during the process. After the presentation the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
