Journalist and author Pete Hamill discussed his work of historical fiction titled Forever: A Novel, published by Little, Brown and Company. The book follows the story of Cormac O’Connor, an Irish immigrant who comes to New York in 1740 to avenge the murder of his parents. When Cormac saves the life of a slave, he is granted immortality but can never leave the island of Manhattan. The history of New York City and of Irish immigrants is recounted through Cormac’s story as he fights in the American Revolution, becomes an abolitionist, encounters Boss Tweed, and witnesses September 11. Mr. Hamill also reflected on the history and people of New York and his life as a New Yorker with historian Mike Wallace. He responded to questions submitted by members of the audience. close
