Author Philip Dray speaks about his book At the Hands of Persons Unknown: The Lynching of Black America, published by Random House. The book chronicles what the author refers to as the systematic lynching of African-Americans from the period of 1882 to 1952. Mr. Dray argues that these crimes occurred as a way for the white population to maintain power over the black population. The author refers to this as a systemized reign of terror, and goes on to show that the victims were often innocent. After the presentation the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
