Bethanne Patrick interviewed physicist Joao Magueijo, author of Faster Than the Speed of Light: The Story of a Scientific Speculation, published by Perseus Publishing, for the March/April issue of Pages magazine. Professor Magueijo discusses the implications of his theory that the speed of light, held as a constant by Albert Einstein in his Special Theory of Relativity, varied prior to one second after the Big Bang. Professor Magueijo talks about his childhood fascination with science, his eventual rejection of Einstein’s theory, and the reaction he has received since proposing the idea that light once travelled faster than 186,000 miles per second. close
