Representative Ernest Istook (R-OK) and Emily Sheketoff of the American Library Association talked about Internet access at public libraries. It was the focus of a Supreme Court case being heard on whether a law requiring public libraries to install filtering software on its Internet-connected computers is unconstitutional. If the libraries do not comply, federal funds would be withheld. The Children’s Internet Protection Act was enacted two years ago to prevent children from viewing online pornography on federally-funded school and library computers. The case was U.S. et al. v. American Library Association. close
