Mr. Kettl talked about his book Team Bush: Leadership Lessons from the Bush White House, published by McGraw-Hill Trade. The book examines the leadership style of the country’s first MBA president, George W. Bush. According to Mr. Kettl, President Bush developed his supervisory skills managing businesses, not government offices. He describes the president as a disciplined man of average intelligence with the ability to assemble, unify and lead a team qualified to analyze complex problems and solutions. He further contends that this ability enables President Bush to make effective decisions. As examples of the President’s administrative skills, Mr. Kettl cites his appointment of a diverse and proficient cabinet and his actions following the events of September 11, 2001. The book also outlines how other executives can use the President’s methods to facilitate decision-making and boost productivity in any type of organization.
