French Member of Parliament Alain Madelin talked about U.S.-French relations in the wake of the disagreement between the U.S. and France over the situation in Iraq. He talked about the reasons for French opposition to the war, including jealousy, desire for international relevance, and Marxist elements. He explained that there was a significant minority in France that supported intervention in Iraq, as well as his own efforts to convince his fellow citizens in France to support the U.S. position. Following prepared remarks, Mr. Madelin responded to questions from the audience. close
