Vice Admiral Keating, the commander of coalition naval forces involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom, talked via videophone about coalition naval operations and the role of the navy in the conflict. The coalition naval forces were comprised of about 140 ships and over 60,000 personnel. The duties of the navy included providing air support, firing cruise missiles, taking wounded onto hospital ships, clearing mines, and escorting ships carrying humanitarian aid.
