The Palestinian Legislative Council voted to confirm Mahmoud Abbas,

also known as Abu Mazen, as Prime Minister of Palestine. Mr. Abbas addressed the council prior to the vote and laid out his legislative agenda. He said that his government would seek to remove Israeli settlements from Palestinian areas and called for the disarmament of Hamas and similar factions. close
