From Foothills Baptist Church in Hardy, Arkansas, former missionary Gracia Burnham discusses her memoir In the Presence of My Enemies, from Tyndale House Publishers. The book chronicles Martin and Gracia Burnham’s kidnapping and captivity by Abu Sayyaf, a Muslim extremist group with ties to Osama bin Laden. For just over a year, Gracia and her husband Martin, a missionary pilot, lived with their captors and a variety of other hostages in the Philippine jungle. During a rescue attempt by the Philippine army, Gracia was wounded in the leg and Martin was killed. Ms. Burnham shares her impressions about the terrorists who held them, how the ordeal affected the missionary couple’s relationship with each other and with God, and about the actions of the U.S. and Philippine governments. close
