Economists Edward Hudgins of the Heritage Foundation and Mark Anderson of the AFL-CIO answered host and audience questions about the American trade deficit. Mr. Hudgins argued that while the numbers were not good, they did not mean much by themselves and that the fundamentals of the economy were strong. Mr. Anderson, on the other hand, argued that the deficit showed a fundamental weakness in the economy. close
