Fred Gray spoke about his law career and his involvement in the civil rights movement, particularly civil rights in Alabama. He made his remarks after receiving an award from the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr. Gay represented Mrs. Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat to a white man on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. He also was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s first civil rights lawyer. He has argued civil rights cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and is the first African American to become president of the Alabama State Bar Association. close
