President Bush spoke to the Society of American Business Editors and Writers about U.S. economic growth and the North American Free Trade Agreement. He talked about the importance of a market-driven economy and a “pay-as-you-go diet” for the federal government. The President outlined the provisions of NAFTA and his “fast track” proposal to Congress. He also said steps would be taken to protect the worker and the environment from any negative outcomes of the agreement, such as unfair wages or pollution. close
