Participants talked about the future of American political and social institutions. Among the topics they addressed were the impact of populist movements, initiatives and referenda, and the role of representative government. They also talked about the California gubernatorial recall election to be held in October. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.

Former Representative Browder is now a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in California and at Jacksonville State University (Alabama). He is the author of The Future of American Democracy: A Former Congressman’s Unconventional Analysis. Former Senator Gravel is now with the National Initiative for Democracy. close
